Proud of our History – Bar Harbor, Maine

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

Located on the northeast shore of Mount Desert Island in the State of Maine, the Town of Bar Harbor served as the main U.S. connection with Yarmouth for over 40 years. With its strategic geographical location, Bar Harbor was an important connection for Nova Scotia fishermen, processors, Christmas tree growers and other businesses looking to ship product directly to the United States. Bar Harbor also became a popular tourist destination for Americans as part of their vacation plans to Atlantic Canada.
