Honouring Our History, Connecting Our Communities

Named after a small island off the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, Île Rouge reflects the province's deep French history. The island has historic significance, being a key part of the French cod fishery along Newfoundland’s French Shore between 1714 and 1904. The name of this chartered vessel is part of Marine Atlantic’s commitment to respectful engagement with communities connected to the province’s history and culture, including the Francophone and Acadian communities.

We look forward to welcoming the Île Rouge this fall.
