MV Marine Packer

Marine Atlantic, its predecessor CN Marine, and pre-confederation Newfoundland coastal boats have a strong and proud history serving the people of Atlantic Canada through ferry terminals, passenger vessels and rail service.

In this week’s blog posting we highlight the MV Marine Packer which operated on the coastal Newfoundland and Labrador service from 1974-1994.

Introduced primarily as a freight vessel for coastal communities, the MV Marine Packer measured 232 feet in length, weighed 1,101 tonnes and carried up to 12 passengers. With the ability to travel at speeds of up to 10 knots, the vessel had 59,700 cubic feet of cargo space which was essential to transporting many of the goods required in coastal communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
