MV Blue Puttees

The MV Blue Puttees is proudly named after the regiment that fiercely represented Newfoundland in the Great War. The Blue Puttees held a reputation as a fearless fighting unit and were part of the tragic advance at Beaumont-Hamel on July 1, 1916. Since that day, in recognition of the soldiers’ bravery, July 1 is marked as Memorial Day in Newfoundland and Labrador, and the courage and sacrifice of the Blue Puttees will never be forgotten.
