Marine Atlantic accepts delivery of the Île Rouge

St. John’s, NL – Marine Atlantic is pleased to announce it has accepted delivery of the charter vessel, the Île Rouge. 

The acceptance of the Île Rouge marks a significant milestone for the organization and represents months of planning, and collaboration between Marine Atlantic, the vessel’s owners, and project partners. 

Named after a small island located off the Port au Port peninsula of Newfoundland, the vessel reflects Marine Atlantic's deep connection to the people and places it serves. The name honours both the history and vibrant community of Franco-Newfoundlanders in the province. 

The vessel has capacity to accommodate approximately 900 people and feature amenities designed to enhance the passenger experience, including 146 passenger cabins (48 of which are pet-friendly), spacious lounges, and dining options. The vessel's modern design and onboard features will help meet the evolving needs and expectations of Marine Atlantic customers. 

The vessel will now begin the next phase of its journey as it prepares to sail toward Canada. Once in North Sydney, the Île Rouge will undergo final preparations, employee training and familiarization activities before entering service later this Fall. 

The addition of the Île Rouge will increase fleet capacity and reflects Marine Atlantic's ongoing commitment to providing safe, reliable and customer-focused ferry service while supporting the transportation needs of residents, businesses and visitors traveling to and from Newfoundland and Labrador.
