Know Before You Go - Our Updated Identification Requirements
At Marine Atlantic, our top priority is providing our passengers with safe, secure travel experiences. Ensuring your safety and security begins far before you board one of our vessels. Every day, our teams monitor the flow of passengers, vehicles and cargo to ensure both the continuity of our operations and security. To meet the evolving needs of security protocols, Marine Atlantic is continually reviewing and enhancing its procedures. Effective December 1, 2025, Marine Atlantic will implement updated customer identification requirements. These changes include the following:
Legal name provided on all reservations
The name on the reservation must match the name on the passenger’s government-issued identification.
A preferred name may be provided in addition to the legal name. If the name you normally go by is different that that reflected on our government issued identification, then please add this additional information to your reservation. Examples may include generally using your middle name, nicknames, or change in name.
Government-Issued Identification Required for Passengers
Customers, including children five years and older, will need to present:
One piece of government-issued photo ID, or
Two pieces of non-photo government-issued ID.
Accepted forms of identification include, but are not limited to:
Driver’s license
Passport
Personal identification card
Birth certificate
Government health card
ID Review at Check-In
Identification will be reviewed as part of the check-in process.
