    • Marine Atlantic Holds 2016 Annual Public Meeting (11/3/2016)
      Marine Atlantic held its 2016 Annual Public Meeting this afternoon (November 2nd) in St. John's, NL. Marine Atlantic's Acting Chair of the Board of Directors, Sharon Duggan, was joined by the President and CEO Paul Griffin and Vice President Finance Shawn Leamon in presenting the 2015-16 financial statements and an overview of the Corporation's activities.
    • New Pilot Bus Service to Offer Customer Access to Downtown Port aux Basques (5/11/2016)
      Through continued co-operation, consultation and effort, the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques is pleased to join Marine Atlantic and the Port aux Basques and Area Chamber of Commerce in announcing a pilot project partnership that will offer Marine Atlantic customers downtown access this summer season. Through this partnership, a free bus service will be offered to Marine Atlantic customers who wish to visit the Scott's Cove downtown area.
    • Marine Atlantic announces limited time booking discount for Port aux Basques-North Sydney service (2/23/2016)
      Following a successful trial discount campaign for its Argentia-North Sydney service in 2015, Marine Atlantic today launched a new limited time discount program for customers making advanced bookings for travel between Port aux Basques and North Sydney on specified dates in May, June and July 2016.
    • Marine Atlantic 2016-17 schedule and rate structure now available for booking (1/28/2016)
      Marine Atlantic has released its 2016-17 schedule and rate structure which is now available for booking for travel between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017.

    • Marine Atlantic Officially Opens New North Sydney Terminal (6/2/2015)
      Following months of design, planning and construction activities, Marine Atlantic's new $20 million, state-of-the-art ferry terminal in North Sydney was officially opened earlier today. The new building is modern, efficient, environmentally friendly, and offers many new amenities for customers. 
    • Marine Atlantic Purchases MV Blue Puttees and MV Highlanders (5/26/2015)
      Through a strong financial contribution and ongoing commitment by the Government of Canada to solidifying Marine Atlantic's fleet for the future, Marine Atlantic confirmed today that it will purchase the MV Blue Puttees and MV Highlanders  to continue serving customers travelling between Port aux Basques, NL and North Sydney, NS. The vessel purchase is part of an approximately $375 million investment in Marine Atlantic's service announced as part Budget 2015.
    • Marine Atlantic renews MV Atlantic Vision lease agreement for three-year term (2/3/2015)
      The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, and Marine Atlantic's President and CEO Paul Griffin announced today that Marine Atlantic has renewed the lease agreement for the MV Atlantic Vision until November 2017, allowing existing ferry service routes to connect Newfoundland and Labrador with the rest of Canada.
    • Marine Atlantic 2015-16 schedule and rate structure now available for booking (1/14/2015)
      Marine Atlantic's 2015-16 schedule and rate structure is now available for booking. This year's schedule will continue to see the popular overnight and morning crossings, and dedicated commercial crossings to facilitate the transport of goods to and from Newfoundland and Labrador.

    • Marine Atlantic Inc. joins Green Marine (9/29/2014)
      Canadian East Coast ferry and terminal operator, Marine Atlantic Inc., has signed on as the newest member of Green Marine, the largest voluntary environmental program for the maritime industry in North America.
    • Update on MV Blue Puttees and MV Highlanders (4/3/2014)
      At approximately 7:15pm NL time on Wednesday evening, both the MV Blue Puttees and MV Highlanders became impacted by severe ice conditions off the coast of Cape Breton
    • 4:00pm NL Time Update on MV Blue Puttees and MV Highlanders (4/3/2014)
      Following successful attempts earlier today to free itself from the thick ice being encountered off the coast of Cape Breton, the MV Highlanders arrived in Port aux Basques at approximately 2:00 pm NL time this afternoon. The vessel is now unloading and preparing to depart at 6:30 pm NL time en route to North Sydney.

      Earlier today, Marine Atlantic was presented with the 2013 Newfoundland and Labrador Employer of Distinction award by the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers Council.
    • Marine Atlantic 2014-15 schedule now available for booking (2/2/2014)
      Marine Atlantic's 2014-15 schedule is now available for booking. This year's schedule will see a maximized number of popular overnight crossings during the busy summer tourist season providing increased selection to customers. Outside of the peak summer season, the schedule has been realigned to meet traffic demand, especially during the low winter season.

    • Marine Atlantic clarifies statements made by Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (11/7/2013)
      In a media release issued yesterday by the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA), a number of statements were made related to Marine Atlantic's ferry service, former commercial reservations system and future fleet configuration.

      On July 31, Marine Atlantic experienced an incident involving the MV Blue Puttees in Port aux Basques harbour.
    • Contracts Awarded for the Construction of a New Terminal Building in North Sydney (8/20/2013)
      Marine Atlantic announced today that two contracts for the site preparation and construction of a new terminal building in North Sydney have been awarded. The successful contractors, both with strong ties to Cape Breton, were Joneljim Construction and Rocklin Construction (a division of Doran Construction). 
    • MV Blue Puttees to Return to Service Argentia Service to Resume (8/19/2013)
      Repair work to the MV Blue Puttees was successfully completed over the weekend and the vessel will depart Halifax later today returning to North Sydney. It is anticipated that the vessel will resume service between North Sydney and Port aux Basques Tuesday evening (August 20).
    • Update on the MV Blue Puttees (8/16/2013)
      Marine Atlantic has been advised that repair work to the bulbous bow of the MV Blue Puttees is progressing ahead of schedule and the vessel will likely return to service earlier than originally anticipated. Marine Atlantic currently anticipates the vessel re-entering service during the middle of next week.
    • MV Highlanders Experiences Mechanical Issue in Sydney Harbour (8/12/2013)
      Late this morning, the MV Highlanders experienced a mechanical issue that resulted in a loss of power in Sydney Harbour.
    • MV Highlanders to Return to Service (8/12/2013)
      Earlier this morning, the MV Highlanders experienced a mechanical issue that resulted in the vessel going to anchor in Sydney Harbour prior to arriving at the dock in North Sydney. Technicians spent several hours on board the vessel this afternoon to identify the issue, which was isolated to an electrical power issue. This issue has since been rectified and all systems have been tested and found operational.
    • Argentia sailings to be re-scheduled up to August 24th (8/6/2013)
      To continue addressing capacity challenges being experienced while the MV Blue Puttees is undergoing repairs in dry dock, Marine Atlantic will continue to re-route the Argentia service through Port aux Basques until August 24th.
    • August 1 morning update on Incident involving MV Blue Puttees (8/1/2013)
      The investigation into what caused yesterday's incident involving the MV Blue Puttees is continuing this morning. At this preliminary stage Marine Atlantic is not aware of information suggesting mechanical issues with the vessel. The purpose of the investigation involving outside agencies such as the Transportation Safety Board is to determine the exact cause and those agencies are just getting underway. 
    • August 1 afternoon update on incident involving MV Blue Puttees (8/1/2013)
      Following underwater inspections of the MV Blue Puttees by divers, it has been determined that the vessel has sustained some damage to its bulbous bow, a piece of equipment used for vessel operating efficiency. While the vessel's integrity has not been compromised and is able to sail, the bulbous bow must be repaired in accordance with regulatory requirements.
    • Argentia service to be impacted by MV Blue Puttees incident (8/1/2013)
      To help address capacity challenges while the MV Blue Puttees is undergoing repairs in dry dock, Marine Atlantic is being forced to re-route the Argentia service through Port aux Basques for at least the next two weeks.
    • Update on Incident involving MV Blue Puttees (7/31/2013)
      At 8:32 NL time, the MV Blue Puttees ran aground while departing Port aux Basques. The situation has been stabilized and the vessel is secure at its current location.
    • Evening update on Incident involving MV Blue Puttees (7/31/2013)
      At approximately 5:00pm NL time, the MV Blue Puttees successfully returned to dock in Port aux Basques.
    • Request for Proposals Issued for the Construction of a New Terminal Building in North Sydney (5/17/2013)
      Marine Atlantic announced today that two Requests for Proposal (RFP) documents have been issued for the proposed construction of a new terminal building at the Corporation's North Sydney terminal property. Interested contractors have until June 10, 2013, to submit their documentation for the site works contract, and June 24, 2013, to submit their documentation for the terminal works contract. The RFP documents can be accessed through Marine Atlantic's website or MERX, a federal government tendering site. 
    • Marine Atlantic to Hold Open House on North Sydney Terminal Property Renewal Program (3/25/2013)
      Marine Atlantic has been undergoing a significant renewal and transformation process in an effort to modernize services for its customers. To show some of the exciting investments that are taking place at its North Sydney terminal property, the Corporation will be holding public events on Thursday, March 28. 
    • Marine Atlantic releases 2013-14 rates and schedule (2/13/2013)
      Marine Atlantic today released its 2013-14 rates and schedule which includes a four per cent rate increase for travel effective April 1, 2013. There are no changes to the fuel surcharge or security fees.

      Marine Atlantic held its 2012 Annual Public Meeting this afternoon (December 12) at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John's, NL. Marine Atlantic Chair, Rob Crosbie, was joined by the President and CEO, Paul Griffin, and Vice President Finance Shawn Leamon in presenting the 2011-12 financial statements and an overview of the Corporation's activities. 
    • Marine Atlantic and the Royal Canadian Navy to commemorate 70th Anniversary of the sinking of the SS Caribou (10/5/2012)
      Marine Atlantic will join representatives from the Royal Canadian Navy in commemorating the 70th anniversary of the loss of the SS Caribou on Sunday, October 14. A wreath laying ceremony, followed by a Royal Canadian Navy committal of ashes ceremony, will take place at the site of the tragedy during the regularly scheduled Port aux Basques-North Sydney afternoon crossing.
    • Significant Investments and Upgrades Being Made to Marine Atlantic’s Port aux Basques Terminal Property (9/5/2012)
      Marine Atlantic President and CEO, Paul Griffin, today outlined two major projects that will improve facilities at the Port aux Basques terminal to better serve customers. The projects, scheduled to begin in September, include the decommissioning and replacement of the aging gulfspan dock and the renovation and upgrade of the terminal building. 
    • MV Highlanders to return to service this evening (8/30/2012)
      The MV Highlanders is scheduled to return to service this evening, August 30, following successful repair efforts undertaken by internal and external technical resources to one of the ship's generators. Marine Atlantic expects to be back on schedule later this evening.
    • MV Highlanders remains out of service while repair work continues (8/28/2012)
      Mechanical issues with one of the generators on board the MV Highlanders will keep the vessel out of service for an additional period of time. Marine Atlantic will modify its existing schedule on a day to day basis until the vessel returns. There has been a tremendous amount of effort by internal and external technical resources over the past several days; however, the generator is still experiencing a mechanical issue.
    • Marine Atlantic Expands Canadian Forces Appreciation Fare (3/6/2012)
      Paul Griffin, President and CEO of Marine Atlantic, today announced that Marine Atlantic will expand its Canadian Forces Appreciation Fare to a year-round program without restrictions limiting the number of spaces available on each crossing. This program is available to Canadian Forces personnel, veterans and up to three companions on the same reservation.
    • Marine Atlantic announces implementation of a security fee as part of rate structure for 2012 season (1/12/2012)
      Marine Atlantic's Vice President of Customer Experience, Don Barnes, today released the Corporation's rate structure for 2012. This year's rate structure includes the introduction of a new $3.50 security fee to recoup some of the costs associated with security initiatives such as inspections, personnel and infrastructure. These ongoing investments are required to meet Canada's Domestic Ferry Security Regulations. The new security fee will be included on a passenger ticket after February 12, and will be charged on adult fares. 

    2011

    • Marine Atlantic Clarifies Canada Industrial Relations Board Referral; Not Related to Budget Cuts and No Threat of Strike (11/26/2011)
      On Friday, November 25, the federal Minister of Labour referred Marine Atlantic Inc. & National Automobile, Aerospace, Transportation and General Workers Union of Canada (CAW-Canada), Local 4285 - Agreement C to the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). This decision followed the parties' inability to reach a collective agreement during two days of conciliation in October.
    • Government of Canada and Marine Atlantic Inc. dedicate second of two new ferries (11/24/2011)
      The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Minister of State (Transport), Wayne Follett, President and Chief Executive Officer of Marine Atlantic (MAI), and Colonel (Retired) Ian Macintyre, Honorary Colonel of the Nova Scotia Highlanders and the Cape Breton Highlanders, today officially welcomed and dedicated the MV Highlanders , the namesake vessel honouring the Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Highland Regiments. The vessel, in tandem with her sister ship the MV Blue Puttees , has significantly improved Marine Atlantic's ability to provide on-time, reliable service and meet increasing traffic demand between North Sydney, Nova Scotia and Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador.
    • Marine Atlantic delivers on promise of an improved service for summer 2011 (9/16/2011)
      The Chairman of Marine Atlantic's Board of Directors, Rob Crosbie, and the President and CEO, Wayne Follett, today released a stakeholder's report card outlining the results of the ferry corporation's peak summer season. "We made a commitment that our customers would witness an improved service this summer and we delivered on that promise. The summer season has proven to be very successful and our customers are telling us that it is one of the best summers ever for Marine Atlantic," said Crosbie.
    • Marine Atlantic begins its 2011 summer schedule with a renewed fleet, increased capacity, and improved amenities for customers (6/16/2011)
      Marine Atlantic will begin its summer schedule on Friday, June 17, with its renewed fleet of four vessels that will provide an additional 25 per cent capacity, improved amenities and better reliability for customers travelling between the Island of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. 
    • Marine Atlantic reports to travelling public on March 19 incident on MV Blue Puttees; confirms safety of the vessel (4/8/2011)
      Marine Atlantic today outlined the findings of an internal review following an incident aboard the MV Blue Puttees on March 19 in which the vessel made an uncharacteristic roll while en route to Port aux Basques. Marine Atlantic stated today that it takes full responsibility for the safe operation of its vessels. The corporation's number one priority is the safety of every person on board its vessels and it recognizes that as a result of this incident, the public's confidence in the vessel may have been shaken. The corporation will work hard to restore that confidence.
    • Transporting 100,000 commercial units during a year: A record first for Marine Atlantic (4/1/2011)
      Demonstrating the increased demand to ship commercial goods to the Island of Newfoundland and the need for Marine Atlantic (MAI) to accommodate this growing capacity, MAI today announced that it has transported 100,000 commercial units during a one a year period for the first time in the corporation's history. 
    • Marine Atlantic to continue its Canadian Forces Appreciation Fare in 2011 (3/17/2011)
      The Honourable Peter Mackay, Minister of National Defence; the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs; the Honourable Rob Merrifield, Minister of State (Transport); and Rob Crosbie, chair of the board of directors of Marine Atlantic, today announced that Marine Atlantic will once again honour the Canadian Forces with a special appreciation fare.
    • MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood’s final scheduled sailing planned for this week (3/8/2011)
      Marine Atlantic (MAI) announced today that the MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood , a vessel that has connected the people and provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia since 1990, will make its final scheduled trip this week. The vessel is currently scheduled to leave North Sydney for the final time on Wednesday, March 9 at 2230 hours, with the last scheduled sailing from Port aux Basques to depart at Thursday, March 10 at 1130 hours.
    • The MV Highlanders docks in North Sydney for the first time (3/4/2011)
      Marine Atlantic (MAI) is welcoming the MV Highlanders to its fleet as the vessel docked in North Sydney for the first time yesterday. The MV Highlanders is the sister ship to the MV Blue Puttees which arrived in Canada earlier this year.
